Buchanan County Head Start receives $1.8 million federal grant

Buchanan County Head Start in Grundy, Virginia, has received a $1,806,699 grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to support its local programs for children. The announcement was made by U.S. Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA).

“Buchanan County Head Start serves over 100 children in Buchanan County.

“This grant for more than $1.8 million helps Buchanan County Head Start deliver head start services to Buchanan County families,” said Griffith.

Buchanan County Head Start is a preschool program aimed at preparing low-income children for their transition into public school from pre-kindergarten. The organization operates eight centers in the area.

Congressman Morgan Griffith has represented Virginia’s 9th district in the U.S. Congress since 2011, after succeeding Rick Boucher. Before serving in Congress, he was a member of the Virginia House of Delegates from 2000 to 2010. More information about his career can be found at https://morgangriffith.house.gov/biography/.

Griffith was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1958 and currently resides in Salem. He earned his undergraduate degree from Emory and Henry College and a law degree from Washington and Lee University.
