The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration has awarded a grant to the Cumberlands Airport Commission in Wise County, Virginia. The $33,915 funding is allocated for a tree removal project aimed at aligning the airport with current standards.

U.S. Congressman Morgan Griffith expressed his support for the initiative: “Tree removal projects are essential in optimizing the safety of aircraft and passengers.” He further stated, “This DOT grant for $33,915 helps Cumberlands Airport Commission identify and eliminate obstructions to the Lonesome Pine Airport.”

As part of this grant, an environmental analysis will be conducted by the Cumberlands Airport Commission.
