The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration has granted the Tazewell County Airport Authority in Richlands, Virginia, $76,950. The funds are designated for a tree removal project aimed at aligning the airport with current safety standards.
U.S. Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) commented on the grant: “Local airports lead tree removal projects to mitigate potential safety hazards to aircraft and passengers.” He added, “This DOT grant for $76,950 helps Tazewell County Airport Authority identify and eliminate obstructions to its airport.”
The grant will enable the Tazewell County Airport Authority to acquire easements for five out of seven parcels that contain obstructions.
