On February 23, 2026, Circuit Court Judge G. Carter Greer appointed Michael Gene Teague to the Martinsville City Council. The appointment follows the postponement of the hearing on Mayor LC Jones’s suspension, which is now scheduled for June 5, 2026.

The court made this decision based on Virginia Code §24.2-236, which allows a court to appoint a suitable person to serve in an official’s place during their suspension.

Teague has accepted the role and will not receive compensation for his service on the council. He previously served several terms as a member of the Martinsville City Council and held positions as both Mayor and Vice Mayor.
