The U.S. Department of Education has awarded Wytheville Community College a TRIO grant totaling $466,274. The funding is intended to support academic development and assist students in successfully completing their college education. Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) commented on the grant, stating, “Southwest Virginia communities benefit from education opportunities at local community colleges.”

He added, “This TRIO grant for $466,274 helps Wytheville Community College support students in their educational pursuits at the institution.”

The Federal TRIO Programs are outreach and student services initiatives aimed at providing assistance to individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds. This particular grant comes through the TRIO Student Support Services program. According to the U.S. Department of Education’s website, these funds are allocated to higher education institutions to offer academic development opportunities, aid with basic college requirements, and motivate students towards successful completion of their postsecondary education.

In 2024, Congressman Griffith met with TRIO students from Virginia’s Ninth District.
