The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has awarded a $300,000 grant to Turman Forest Products, Inc., located in Bedford County, Virginia. The grant is intended for upgrades to the company’s mill debarker.

U.S. Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) commented on the award, stating: “Wood innovations grants help local timber businesses meet demands for sustainably sourcing wood to make products.” He added that the USDA grant would assist Turman Forest Products in providing quality wood products and supporting rural manufacturing jobs.

Turman Forest Products is known for manufacturing green Appalachian hardwood lumber. The Wood Innovations Grant program aims to invest in projects that expand traditional wood utilization, promote using wood as a construction material in various buildings, and develop wood energy markets.
