U.S. Congressman Morgan Griffith attended a White House ceremony where the HALT Fentanyl Act, designated as S. 331, was signed into law. This bill complements Rep. Griffith’s and Rep. Latta’s own version, H.R. 27, which had previously passed in the House.

Rep. Griffith expressed his satisfaction with the legislation’s enactment: “As a leading proponent of the HALT Fentanyl Act since Day One, I am glad to see this important bill become law!” He further appreciated the support from his Congressional colleagues and President Trump in addressing the fentanyl crisis: “Today is an important step in taking action against lethal fentanyl-related substances and saving lives.”

The House initially passed H.R. 27 on February 6, 2025, while S. 331 cleared both Senate and House votes by March 14 and June 12 respectively.

Griffith played an active role during the floor debate over this act, aimed at permanently classifying certain fentanyl-related substances as Schedule I drugs—a designation set to expire this September without intervention—and simplifying research processes related to these substances.

In addition to this legislative success, a recent reconciliation bill seeks to bolster efforts against drug trafficking by increasing funding for border security measures under the Trump Administration.

Congressman Griffith was also appointed Chairman of the Health Subcommittee within the House Committee on Energy and Commerce earlier this month.
