Congressman Morgan Griffith, a Republican from Virginia, chaired a hearing as part of his role in the House Committee on Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Environment. The hearing was titled “The Fiscal Year 2026 Environmental Protection Agency Budget” and featured Lee Zeldin, the Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The focus was on discussing the agency’s budget request for the upcoming fiscal year.
During his opening statement, Chairman Griffith addressed the EPA’s efforts to manage regulations and promote the “Powering the Great American Comeback” initiative. He later engaged with Administrator Zeldin regarding the agency’s ongoing projects.
Previously, Congressman Griffith chaired several other significant hearings. In 2024, he led a session addressing concerns about “Biden’s Green Bank Giveaway.” That same year, he collaborated with Cathy McMorris Rodgers to seek clarification from the EPA concerning Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund awards. More recently, in April 2025, he participated in an investigation into recipients of these grants alongside Brett Guthrie and Gary Palmer.
Currently serving his first term as chairman of this subcommittee during the 119th Congress, Griffith has overseen discussions related to chemical manufacturing regulations and Brownfields Program administration. He also announced new EPA Brownfields grants allocated to Virginia’s Ninth District.
