The U.S. House of Representatives has passed the Commerce, Justice, Science and Related Agencies Appropriations Act of 2026 ahead of a government funding deadline on January 30. The bill now moves to the Senate for further consideration.

Included in this appropriations bill is $1.4 million in federal funding for the Craig County Emergency Communications Project in Virginia’s Ninth District. The funds are designated for upgrading emergency communications systems in Craig County.

U.S. Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA), who represents Virginia’s 9th district, played a role in securing this funding. Griffith stated, “I am proud to help secure in this appropriations bill $1.4 million for Craig County. These important funds will help Craig County upgrade emergency communications systems.”

He added, “I am hopeful that the Senate passes this commerce, justice and science appropriations bill so Craig County is one step closer to receiving these funds to complete this important public safety project.”

Griffith has recently assisted Craig County with efforts to gain access to an emergency radio tower site as part of ongoing improvements to local public safety infrastructure.

Griffith has represented Virginia’s 9th district in Congress since 2011 after replacing Rick Boucher. He previously served in the Virginia House of Delegates from 2000 to 2010 and holds degrees from Emory and Henry College and Washington and Lee University.

Other appropriations bills considered by the House this week include those related to energy and water.
