Congress has passed the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2026, H.R. 7148, which was signed into law by President Donald Trump. The legislation includes federal funding for a project in Virginia’s Ninth District.
U.S. Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) secured $3 million in the appropriations package for the Corridor Q – U.S. 460 Connector Phase II Paving Project, which will be managed by the Virginia Coalfields Expressway Authority.
Following the signing of the bill and allocation of funds, Congressman Griffith stated: “This government funding package, which I supported, delivers critical funds to Ninth District community projects. In this package, I helped secure $3 million for the Virginia Coalfields Expressway Authority.
“With this federal funding available to the Authority, the Virginia Coalfields Expressway will expand.”
The funding request for this project was submitted by Rep. Griffith for fiscal year 2026. In October 2025, he attended a ribbon cutting event marking new sections of the Coalfields Expressway.
The appropriations package covers several bills including those related to labor and health and human services, defense, as well as transportation and housing and urban development.
Morgan Griffith has represented Virginia’s 9th district in Congress since 2011 after succeeding Rick Boucher. Before his tenure in Congress, he served in the Virginia House of Delegates from 2000 to 2010 and is an alumnus of Emory and Henry College and Washington and Lee University.
