Congress has passed and President Donald Trump has signed into law H.R. 7148, the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2026. The legislation includes $500,000 in federal funding for a project in Tazewell County, Virginia.
The funds are designated for the “Mitigating Against and Preventing Wastewater Bypass in Richlands, VA” project. The recipient of this funding is the County of Tazewell.
U.S. Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA), who represents Virginia’s 9th district, played a role in securing this funding as part of the appropriations package. Griffith has served in Congress since 2011 after replacing Rick Boucher and previously held a seat in the Virginia House of Delegates from 2000 to 2010. He was born in Philadelphia in 1958 and resides in Salem. Griffith holds degrees from Emory and Henry College and Washington and Lee University.
In response to the passage of the appropriations package, Congressman Griffith stated: “This government funding package, which I supported, delivers critical funds to Ninth District community projects. In this package, I helped secure $500,000 for Tazewell County.
“With this federal funding available to Tazewell County, local access to flood preventative measures and resources will improve.”
The community project funding request was submitted by Rep. Griffith for fiscal year 2026. The appropriations bills included in this legislative package cover labor, health and human services; defense; transportation; housing; and urban development.
