The U.S. House of Representatives has passed the Commerce, Justice, Science and Related Agencies Appropriations Act of 2026 ahead of a government funding deadline set for January 30. This bill now moves to the Senate for further consideration.

Included in this appropriations bill is $294,800 in federal funding earmarked for the City of Bristol, Virginia. The funds are designated for the purchase of eight new police vehicles to support local law enforcement efforts.

U.S. Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA), who represents Virginia’s 9th District and has served in Congress since 2011 after succeeding Rick Boucher, played a key role in securing this funding. Griffith also previously served in the Virginia House of Delegates from 2000 to 2010 and currently resides in Salem. He was born in Philadelphia in 1958 and holds degrees from Emory and Henry College and Washington and Lee University.

Following the passage of the appropriations bill, Griffith stated: “I am proud to help secure in this appropriations bill nearly $300,000 for the City of Bristol, Virginia. These important funds will help the City purchase eight new police vehicles for Bristol City Police to better serve the public safety needs of the local community.

“I am hopeful that the Senate passes this commerce, justice and science appropriations bill so the City of Bristol, Virginia, is one step closer to receiving these funds to complete this important community project.”

The funding request was submitted by Griffith for fiscal year 2026 as part of his ongoing efforts on behalf of his district.

Other appropriations bills considered by the House this week include those focused on energy and water initiatives.
