Congressman Morgan Griffith, a Republican from Virginia and member of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, took part in a markup hearing focused on advancing several energy-related measures. Among these was his own bill, H.R. 3632, known as the Power Plant Reliability Act of 2025. The committee favorably reported this bill.
The Power Plant Reliability Act of 2025 seeks to amend Section 207 of the Federal Power Act. It aims to empower a Regional Transmission Organization or a state Public Utility Commission to petition the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) for an order to keep a power plant operational and allocate costs for addressing reliability issues.
Griffith has expressed concerns about the early retirement of electric power plants in Virginia and the broader region, particularly regarding its impact on electric bills in Southwest Virginia.
In his first term as chairman of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Environment during the 119th Congress, Griffith also responded positively to recent proposals by the Environmental Protection Agency aimed at rolling back certain power plant rules.
Additionally, Congressman Griffith holds the position of Co-Chair within the Congressional Coal Caucus.
