The U.S. House of Representatives has passed H.R. 2483, known as the SUPPORT for Patients & Communities Reauthorization Act of 2025. This legislation aims to continue crucial health programs that address substance use disorder and promote recovery resources.

U.S. Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) commented on the passage of the bill: “We are seeing real progress in terms of treatment opportunities as well as recovery resources for those affected by substance use disorder. I am proud to support reauthorization of the SUPPORT Act, further strengthening our ability to combat the opioid crisis in Appalachia and giving Americans hope to rebuild their lives.”

Congressman Griffith’s efforts against the opioid epidemic include introducing the RECONNECTIONS Act of 2023 during the last Congress. The language from this bill is now incorporated into Section 103 of the SUPPORT for Patients & Communities Reauthorization Act of 2025, which reauthorizes a prescription drug monitoring program aimed at tracking where prescription drugs are dispensed.

The SUPPORT for Patients & Communities Reauthorization Act of 2025 will now proceed to the U.S. Senate for consideration.

Additionally, Congressman Griffith is noted as the House sponsor of the HALT Fentanyl Act, which passed in February 2025.
