The Office of the Clerk of Circuit Court for Martinsville announced on March 9 the launch of “VADeed Alert,” a free notification service aimed at helping property owners protect themselves from deed fraud.
The new service is intended to provide an extra layer of security for Virginians concerned about unauthorized changes or filings related to their property. By alerting users when documents are recorded in local land records that match their name or Tax Map/Parcel ID number, VADeed Alert offers early warning of potentially fraudulent activity.
“Deed fraud is a growing concern nationwide,” said Jean Nunn, Clerk of Circuit Court for the City of Martinsville. “VADeed Alert gives property owners a simple and effective way to stay informed and take quick action if something doesn’t look right.”
While VADeed Alert does not stop documents from being recorded or verify the legality of filings, it allows property owners to monitor activity and seek assistance if they notice suspicious transactions. The service is available at no cost to all Virginia property owners, with notifications sent by email. Users can choose to monitor their personal name, business name, or Tax Map/Parcel ID number.
Enrollment in VADeed Alert can be completed online in just a few minutes. Property owners interested in signing up can visit https://risweb.vacourts.gov/VADeedAlert/#/login. For additional information or questions about local land records, residents may contact the Martinsville Circuit Court Clerk’s Office.
