The Martinsville City Council voted on April 14 to release the Forensic Audit conducted by Brown Edwards, making copies available to residents after the meeting and online under the “Transparency” tab of the City’s website.

The release of the audit comes as city leadership acknowledges that actions detailed in the report have raised concerns among residents and led to reduced confidence in local government. In response, officials say they are working to restore trust through policy changes and increased accountability.

City staff have started a broad effort aimed at strengthening accountability, improving financial controls, and reinforcing confidence in how taxpayer resources are managed. As part of this initiative, City Manager Rob Fincher released a document titled Actions Taken to Restore Accountability and Financial Integrity. The document describes major policy reforms that have been implemented or are underway across financial, administrative, and human resources operations.

“The City of Martinsville remains fully committed to continuous improvement and to implementing additional safeguards that ensure responsible, transparent governance. We will continue working diligently to protect the public trust and to ensure that your tax dollars are managed with the highest level of integrity,” said Fincher.

According to city officials, work on these reforms is ongoing. The document states more policy or procedural changes may be made as efforts continue.
