Congressman Morgan Griffith, who represents Virginia’s 9th district in the U.S. Congress, used his social media platform to address recent debates over coal policy and energy reform.

Later that day, he voiced opposition to a proposed Democratic policy change regarding manufacturing upgrades at coal-powered facilities: “Stop kicking Appalachia around!

Last month, Democrats tried to pass a policy change that would stop manufacturers from making efficiency upgrades to a plant if the facility uses electricity generated from coal.

Morgan Griffith has represented Virginia’s 9th District in Congress since replacing Rick Boucher in 2011 and previously served in the Virginia House of Delegates from 2000 to 2010. Born in Philadelphia in 1958 and currently residing in Salem at age 65, Griffith holds degrees from Emory and Henry College and Washington and Lee University.
