Morgan Griffith, a U.S. Congressman representing Virginia’s 9th district since 2011, has shared insights and updates through a series of tweets on social media. His posts cover topics ranging from historical commemorations to legislative developments.
On June 5, 2025, Griffith highlighted the upcoming anniversary of D-Day. He stated, “Tomorrow, the United States of America will commemorate the 81st anniversary of D-Day.” He also mentioned addressing Congress to emphasize the importance of the National D-Day Memorial and its founder Bob Slaughter.
In another tweet dated June 6, 2025, Griffith discussed a legislative measure related to Medicaid. He noted that the House reconciliation bill “Protects traditional Medicaid population,” prevents misuse by certain adults without dependents in need of care, and promotes community engagement.
Later on June 6, Griffith paid tribute to military personnel involved in D-Day operations. Referring specifically to Staff Sergeant Bob Slaughter from Virginia who participated in the Normandy landings on June 6, 1944, he stated that their bravery would be honored nationwide at locations such as Bedford County’s National D-Day Memorial: “Today, their courageous acts in defense of American liberty will be honored across the country.”
Morgan Griffith was born in Philadelphia in 1958 and currently resides in Salem. He graduated with a BA from Emory and Henry College in 1980 and earned his JD from Washington and Lee University in 1983. Before serving in Congress, he was part of the Virginia House of Delegates from 2000 to 2010.
