U.S. Congressman Morgan Griffith, who represents Virginia’s 9th district, used his social media platform this week to comment on several topics of local and national interest.
On February 16, Griffith acknowledged Presidents’ Day by highlighting Virginia’s historical contributions to the presidency. In a post he wrote: “On Presidents’ Day, we celebrate the leadership, traditions and patriotism of those who served the American presidency. Thanks to Virginia’s role, with the likes of George Washington and Thomas Jefferson, the foundation of our country strengthened.”
Later that day, Griffith recognized a milestone for Virginia’s agricultural community following an announcement from the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (NCBA). On February 17 he stated: “Good news for American beef! The National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (NCBA) inducted SWVA native Gene Copenhaver as its next president. I join Virginia’s cattlemen and ranchers in celebrating this honor, as Gene becomes the 1st Virginian to lead the NCBA!”
On energy policy, Griffith criticized proposals associated with Democratic lawmakers. On February 17 he posted: “Democrats’ high-cost “Green New Deal” agenda fails to provide reliable and affordable energy for Virginians. To lower costs, Virginians are counting on commonsense policies that embrace all available energy options, not ones that make some feel better about themselves.”
Morgan Griffith has represented Virginia’s 9th District in Congress since 2011 after succeeding Rick Boucher. He previously served in the Virginia House of Delegates from 2000 to 2010. Born in Philadelphia in 1958 and now residing in Salem, Griffith holds degrees from Emory and Henry College (1980) and Washington and Lee University School of Law (1983).
