U.S. Congressman Morgan Griffith, who represents Virginia’s 9th district, recently highlighted moments of local and national significance through a series of posts on his social media account.
On August 4, 2025, Griffith commemorated a historic event in Southwest Virginia’s history, stating, “On this day, August 4, 1951, Norton defeated Charlottesville in the Little League State Championship. Norton is considered to be the first integrated little league team in the South. It was an honor attending the 2022 dedication ceremony celebrating this moment of SWVA history.”
The following day, on August 5, he recognized military service within his district by presenting replacement medals to a local veteran. He wrote, “Last week, I presented replacement military medals to Jerry Hodge, a Korean War veteran in Smyth County. The Ninth District is proud of our rich heritage serving our country in American armed forces, and I am cherish honoring them in manners like this!”
Later that evening on August 5, Griffith attended a community policing event and expressed appreciation for law enforcement and first responders: “Tonight in Bedford, I enjoyed attending the Bedford Police Department’s National Night Out. Grateful for the work of all of the Ninth District’s law enforcement agencies and first responders.”
Morgan Griffith has represented Virginia’s 9th district in Congress since 2011 after succeeding Rick Boucher. Before his tenure in Congress, he served in the Virginia House of Delegates from 2000 to 2010. Born in Philadelphia in 1958 and currently residing in Salem, Griffith earned his undergraduate degree from Emory and Henry College and later received a law degree from Washington and Lee University.
