Morgan Griffith, U.S. Congressman representing Virginia’s 9th district since 2011, has recently highlighted regional educational and political developments through a series of posts on his social media account.
On November 2, 2025, Griffith emphasized the role of a local institution in workforce development: “Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center is helping develop those in careers that support Appalachian communities.” That same day, he shared details about an event at Emory & Henry University Healthcare Excellence Academy Lab School (HEALS), noting the presence of state leaders and a new grant: “After a ceremony highlighting the Emory & Henry University Healthcare Excellence Academy Lab School (HEALS) housed at the Center, I celebrated a recent $280,000 Appalachian Regional Commission grant alongside First Lady Youngkin, state officials, and community leaders.”
On November 5, 2025, Griffith commented on national politics with criticism directed at the opposing party’s approach to government funding: “LISTEN: Democratic Party government shutdown strategy is reckless and wrong.”
Griffith has served as representative for Virginia’s 9th District since replacing Rick Boucher in 2011. Prior to his tenure in Congress, he was a member of the Virginia House of Delegates from 2000 to 2010. Born in Philadelphia in 1958 and currently residing in Salem, Griffith graduated from Emory and Henry College in 1980 before earning his law degree from Washington and Lee University three years later.
