Cost of college went up for all students at Virginia Highlands Community College

In-state tuition and fees rose 2.4 percent for 2018-19 at Virginia Highlands Community College, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Virginia residents paid $4,710 to attend the two-year public institution this year – $112 more than the $4,598 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid 125.9 percent more than residents this year, or $10,638. Their price tag grew 1.1 percent from $10,526 in 2017-18.

About 94 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Virginia residents. And about 5 percent are residents of other states.

Data shows 90 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 231 students received grants or scholarships totaling $1.2 million and 6 students took out student loans totaling more than $31,876.

Including all undergraduates (2,387), 1,210 students used grants or scholarships totaling $4.5 million.
