Women's Tennis Destroy Wasps 7-0

University of Virginia's College at Wise Athletics issued the following announcement on Sept. 18

Women's tennis defeated the Emory & Henry Wasps Saturday morning in their second match of the season. 

In singles play, the Cavaliers went undefeated against the Wasps. In No. 1, Katie Akimenko and sister Liza Akimenko each defeated their opponents Payton Holt and Tess Flanigan 6-0, 6-1; 6-3, 6-0, respectively. Following them was Cavalier Sarah Moore who defeated Molly McMichael by a score of 6-4, 6-0. Grace Hall beat Logan Graham 6-3, 6-3 in the No.3 spot, while Emily Conn beat Ann Ceray Purdue 6-2 and then 7-6 (3). Lastly, Sara Nichols defeated Bronwyn McAlindon 6-1, 6-3.

In the doubles, The Akimenko sister duo beat Holt and Flanigan 6-0 in the No. 1 spot. At No. 2 doubles, Cavaliers Moore and Hall fell to Wasps McMichael and Graham by a score of 7-6 (8), and Conn and Nichols grabbed a 6-0 win against McAlindon and Bailey King. 

The UVA Wise tennis teams resume play on Sunday, Sept. 19 at home against Roanoke College, starting at 12:00 p.m.
