Women's Golf Places Fifth at UPike Fall Invitational

University of Virginia's College at Wise Athletics issued the following announcement on Sept. 26

Freshman Olivia Baker continues to impress in her inaugural collegiate season. The Jonesville, Va. product finished tied for 17th with a two-day score of 168 at the UPike Fall Invitational. Baker's strong showing allowed UVA Wise to finish fifth as a team in the event with a team score of 698; Marion took home the team title with a score of 618.

Baker opened the event with an 89 on day one before shaving 10 strokes off her opening round score to capitulate to 17th place. The freshman's second round score of 79 was the lowest round by any Cavalier in the event.

Sarah Arnold tied for 21st as the Gate City, Va. native shot an 86 in the first round before shooting an 87 on day two en route a 173 to become the second highest finishing UVA Wise golfer. Erin Musick came in 27th as the sophomore shot an 88 on day one as part of a tournament score of 180. Haley Howard tied for 35th with a score of 190 and Hanna Damron shot a 191 to place 37th to round out Cavs in the tournament.

University of Pikeville golfer Boo Newsome took home the individual crown with a two-day score of 150, Marian's Elizabeth Hedrick finished second with a score of 153.

Next up for UVA Wise, Robin Dotson's team will compete in the Nick England Invitational on Oct. 11. The event will be held at Cattails at Meadowview in Kingsport, Tenn.
