University of Virginia's College at Wise Athletics issued the following announcement on Jan. 15

Jaymi Golden's banked three-pointer with 1.8 seconds to play lifted UVA Wise to a 77-74 South Atlantic Conference basketball victory over Queens University of Charlotte at the Prior Center Saturday.

HOW IT STARTED

Queens started out fast behind a strong defensive effort. The Royals forced nine turnovers in the first quarter and limited the Cavaliers to 33.3 percent shooting to take a 21-16 lead. The visitors would outscore UVA Wise by two in the second period to go to halftime leading 42-35.

THE COMEBACK

Trailing 51-46 with 4:55 to play, UVA Wise received back-to-back buckets from former high school teammates Peyton Sams and Meg Crawford to cut the deficit to one. After a made 3-pointer from Queens' Mikayla Sink, Kayla Johnson would connect on four consecutive foul shots to tie the game at 54 with 2:16 to play in the quarter. The Cavs would take the lead to the fourth quarter thanks to a buzzer beating layup by Nia Vanzant.

THE FINAL COUNTDOWN

The hosts would push the lead to 10 when Crawford scored with 6:08 remaining in the game. The Royals would then put together a 7-0 scoring spurt to make it a one possession game with four minutes showing on the clock. Jamie Cluesman's team would hold a six-point lead with 2:23 to play after a Golden basket but Queens would not go away. The Royals would receive a pair of free throws from Kristy Hamze, a bucket by Taylor Stevens, and a jumper by Kayla Hall to tie the game with 35 seconds left.

THE SHOT

After a missed shot by UVA Wise, Golden grabbed the rebound and shot the ball high off the glass as it would fall through the net for the winning bucket.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

UVA Wise placed four players in double-figure scoring. Vanzant tossed in a team-high 19 points and Golden chipped in 16 to be the scoring leaders. Meanwhile, Johnson recorded a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds as did Crawford who chipped in 12 points with 12 rebounds. The Cavs overcame 27 turnovers by assisting on 21-of-27 field goals in the game.
