St. Andrews slips past Rams in doubleheader

The St. Andrews University Knights took an Appalachian Athletic Conference doubleheader from the Bluefield University Rams 3-2 and 8-7, Saturday afternoon at Bowen Field.

GAME ONE

  • SAU scored in the opening inning on a solo home run and added two in the fourth to forge ahead 3-0.
  • BU scored one in the fifth and one in the sixth to draw within a run.
LEADERS

  • Reece Genter, David Meech, Clay Wisner, and Bryce Medlock each had two hits.
  • Cobb and Wisner had an RBI apiece.
GAME TWO

  • The Knights went up 2-0 in the first on a two-run homer and added three in the third to go up 4-0.
  • The Rams plated two in the third on an error and one in the fourth on an Eligha Lewis single, the first hit of the game for Bluefield, to cut it to 4-3.
  • Three consecutive Knights batters hit solo home runs in the fifth to push the lead to 7-3.
  • The Rams pushed across two in the fifth before SAU scored its final run in the sixth to make it 8-5.
  • Bluefield rallied in the seventh, loading the bases and scoring a pair of runs, but falling short.
LEADERS

  • Cobb and Meech had a pair of hits each.
  • Lewis and Genter both knocked in a pair of runs.
NEXT IN LINE

  • The Rams host West Virginia University Tech, Tuesday at 6 p.m. in a non-conference game.
