Men's soccer snaps skid

Bluefield University men's soccer snapped its four-game losing streak Wednesday afternoon with a 4-1 win over the Kentucky Christian University Knights. The Rams now stand at 6-6 overall and 4-5 in the Appalachian Athletic Conference.

INSIDE THE MATCH

  • KCU took a 1-0 lead with a goal in the 28th minute.
  • BU evened the match in the 32nd minute on a goal by Gustavo DeOliviera. Nathan Thompson provided the assist.
  • The Rams took the lead on a Drake Cullens goal in the 38th minute and led 2-1 at halftime.
  • Michael Gutu scored for the Rams in the 52nd minute.
  • Bluefield's final goal came in the 84th minute on a header by Devin Calloway, off a corner kick by Jonathan Gonzalez.
LEADERS

  • DeOliviera, Cullens, Gutu, and Calloway all scored goals for the Rams.
  • Thompson and Gonzalez picked up assists.
COACH SMITH SAID: "I am glad that we were able to get back on track with the win today. I hope it will spark us into the final stretch of the season and propel us to a strong finish."
