Longwood and the Panthers pushed for the first 44 minutes in the second half and neither side was able to push one past the opposing goalie. Kidus Assefa had the Lancers best opportunity in the second half when he sent a left footed curler towards the left side of the Panther net. High Point goalie Holden Trent made a sprawling save to keep the Lancers off the board.

In the last minute of the match, High Point scored on a free kick from distance to clinch the 3-0 victory.

WHAT THEY SAID

"It took us 20 minutes to finally get in gear, but once we did we competed and started to chip away," said head coach Jon Atkinson after the season finale. "Unfortunately we conceded two soft goals in that opening period and made it a harder hole to climb out of. To be fair we handled the second half quite well but didn't have enough danger in us to threaten consistently. An early goal was needed and it never came."

"The lads never once threw in the towel and I appreciate this teams effort throughout the season. It's not easy when there wasn't much to play for only pride and yet still produced some fantastic football.
We will regroup and learn from this challenging year. I have no doubt we will come back stronger from  this."

ADDITIONAL NOTES
Longwood keepers recorded three saves on the evening

This was the last game of the season for Longwood men's soccer as they'll begin preparation for the 2023 season.
