CAVS DROP SEASON FINALE AT WINGATE

Wingate all but solidified a trip to the NCAA Division II Football Playoffs with a 45-7 triumph over UVA Wise at Belk Stadium Saturday.

Wingate (9-2, 7-2 SAC) scored the game's first 17 points of the game as Shaw Crocker fired a touchdown pass and ran for a score while Ethan Evans booted a 24-yard field goal to account for the 17 points.

UVA Wise (2-9, 1-8) scored its lone points of the day when Juwan Dent fired a 93-yard touchdown pass to Tyler Kirkess in the third quarter. It was the longest pass play of the season for Dane Damron's team.

Crocker would add tow more touchdown passes and a scoring run while Sirod Cook had a scoop and score from 15 yards out to provide the final tally of 45-7.

Kirkess finished with a career-high 118 receiving yards while Robert Carter picked off his sixth pass of the season in defeat.
