GAME NOTES: CAVALIERS SET TO BATTLE ALICE LLOYD TUESDAY
TIP-OFF TIDBITS
Scott Cornett and the Alice Lloyd Eagles are coming off a big 89-60 River States Conference win over Carlow from Saturday, Nov. 19 — and hope to bring that momentum to Wise on Tuesday. In the victory, Eagles Bryce Slone and Will Philpot dropped a solid 14 points each. However, the team struggled mightily from the three-point line, only sinking nine shots out of 24 (37.5%). After seven games, Alice Lloyd only averages 65.4 points per game — while UVA Wise averages 97.3.
PLAYERS TO WATCH:
Jared Strickland: The junior forward averages 21 minutes per game and leads the Eagles in field goal percentage (66.7).
Will Philpot: The senior forward leads his team in minutes (29.4) and points per game (13.2). Philpot leads the River States Conference in RSC rebounds per game (17.0).
Colyn Sturgill: The Southwest Virginia native will come face-to-face with old high school teammate Luke Lawson in the Prior Center on Tuesday. Sturgill is a huge asset under the bucket for the Eagles, snagging 5.2 rebounds per game.
UVA WISE NEWS & NOTES
The UVA Wise Cavaliers are STILL rolling in the win column after a 84-60 win over the Newport News Apprentice School on Saturday, Nov. 19. Bradley Dean was lethal from the arc — the sophomore sank five three-point buckets and put up a .727 from the field. Rron Ukaj followed close behind with 14 points — a career-high from the junior transfer. With the win, the Cavaliers found themselves receiving votes in the D2SIDA Southeast Region Rankings for the first time in the program's Division II era.
Dean has had an explosive start of the season — ranking second in the conference in points per game (19.5), and ranking fourth in three-point field-goal percentage (64.7). Other Cavaliers scatter the league leaderboard as well. Joe'l Pettiford ranks third in field goal percentage (69.6) and Luke Lawson has a third-place ranking in blocks per game (1.5).

This will be the 67th meeting between Alice Lloyd and UVA Wise. The Cavaliers lead the all-time series 36-30, and won their last meeting by a score of 88-80 on Nov. 22, 2019 — exactly three years ago to the date.
