CAVS FLY PAST EAGLES IN 73-61 VICTORY
Five Cavaliers in the double-digits was the key to success in the 73-61 win against Alice Lloyd on Tuesday, Nov. 22.
Despite a slow start, UVA Wise (5-0) found their footing after a three-pointer from Ben Bryson solidified a nine-point lead. Alice Lloyd (2-6) held their ground with help from Bryce Slone from the field, but the Cavs clung on to an eight point lead going into halftime. `
In the second, a Will Philpot three-pointer catapulted the Eagles into action. Shots from Rron Ukaj and Luke Lawson allowed some breathing room for the Cavs — but not for long. Philpot and Jared Strickland heaved up two jumpers in the 16th minute to get within four points.
After a back-and-forth ten minutes, the Eagles found themselves within two points and the Cavaliers were forced into overdrive. Lawson and Dean both found their shot at just the right time — each hitting back-to-back three-pointers in the last minute of the game to ultimately solidify the win.
Lawson led the night with 18 points, while Ukaj snagged his first UVA Wise career double-double with 10 rebounds and 10 points.
The current 5-0 start marks the best start for the UVA Wise men's basketball program since November of 2002, when the 2002-03 Cavaliers produced a 6-0 start.
The Cavs are once again back in action in the Prior Center on Sunday, Nov. 27 as they face the Warren Wilson Owls at 2 PM.
