CAVS BEGIN CONFERENCE PLAY AT TUSCULUM
TIP-OFF TIDBITSJ.T. Burton and his regionally-ranked Tusculum squad began conference play this past week against Lincoln Memorial, and the Railsplitters barely squeezed past with a 72-67 win. In the matchup, Pioneer-standout Inady Legiste put up a double-double with 21 points and 11 rebounds. The Pioneers struggled from the arc, though — only sinking six of 27 shots.
TUSCULUM PLAYERS TO WATCHInady Legiste: The junior forward leads Tusculum in scoring with 18.8 points per game (second in the league) and averages a solid 9.5 rebounds per game. Last week, Legiste was named Varsity Gems SAC Player of the Week after his double-double performance against Lees-McRae.
Jalen Crowder: The senior guard has paced the Pioneers on both sides of the court, averaging 14 points per game and grabbing a trio of rebounds per game. Crowder averages 37 minutes of playing time per game which ranks second in the conference.
Connor Jordan: The junior guard puts up 11.5 points per game and aids Tusculum under the bucket with 3.3 rebounds per game
UVA WISE NEWS & NOTESConference play is upon us as the Cavs face off Tusculum on Wednesday, Dec. 7 in Greeneville, Tenn. The Cavaliers are coming off their first loss of the season against Young Harris where the Mountain Lions held the Cavs to 9-of-23 from the field in the second half after the Cavs led Young Harris going into intermission. Four Cavs scored in double-digits on the night, with Bradley Dean and Luke Lawson combining for 30 points, seven rebounds, and two steals.
CAVS RECEIVING VOTES IN THE POLLSUVA Wise enters their third week receiving votes in the D2SIDA Southeast Region Rankings. In the poll, Lincoln Memorial ranks at the top with an 8-1 record, followed by Tusculum in the six-spot, Newberry in the nine-hole, and Wingate rounding out the top 10. UVA Wise snagged five votes and Carson-Newman received two.
