Emory & Henry Men’s Basketball Rolls Past Johnson & Wales, 111-93, Monday At Home

The Emory & Henry College Men's Basketball Team (5-2, 0-1 SAC) cruised by Johnson & Wales (N.C.) University (3-6) in non-conference action on Monday evening. The Wasps took the win in the 'battle of the ampersands' by a 111-93 score.

How It Happened- The game got off to an even start as the two teams stood deadlocked at 8-8 at the first media timeout. A 13-4 run over the next four minutes saw the Wasps take the lead, but the Wildcats would claw back into the contest and jump ahead 31-30 with seven minutes to play in the opening half. E&H would respond and held the 51-46 advantage at the halftime break.- The Wasps got off to a hot start in the second stanza and widened their lead to 79-65 at the midway point. E&H ratcheted up the defensive pressure and utilized a 14-3 run to establish a lead that they would not relinquish and cruised to the 111-93 victory.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders-Sophomore forward Jake Moynihan (Muncie, Ind.) had 22 points, three rebounds and an assist off the bench. Senior guard Malcolm Morgan (Concord, N.C.) added 22 points, six rebounds, four assists and a steal.- Sophomore guard/forward Gabe Brown (Clintwood, Va.) contributed 17 points, seven rebounds, five assists, three steals and a block while freshman guard Christian Drummer (Lawrenceville, Ga.) posted six points, three rebounds, three assists and one steal. 

Johnson & Wales Individual Leaders- Anthony Rey led the Wildcats with 30 points, four rebounds, five assists and two blocks while JC Cooper had 16 points, two rebounds, three steals and an assist.- Zyrion Wilkins posted ten points and three rebounds in the loss.

A Deeper Look- Emory & Henry shot 61.4 percent (43-for-70) from the field while Johnson & Wales (N.C.) made 33-of-67 (49.3%) of their shots. The Wasps team hit 12 three-pointers in the contest, compared to eight for the Wildcats.- E&H held a 42-26 rebounding advantage and outscored the visitors by a 60-46 margin in points in the paint.
