PIONEERS USURP CAVALIERS LATE
Tusculum's Inady Legiste snagged a double-double of 12 rebounds and 22 points and held the Cavaliers to 34.8-percent from the field en route to a 64-61 win in Pioneer arena on Wednesday, Dec. 7.
The Cavaliers (6-2, 0-1 SAC) came out hot as tough shots from Ben Bryson and Luke Lawson paced their squad to a 16-8 lead by the first media timeout.
Tusculum (4-1, 1-1 SAC) found their way back within two by the eighth minute after James West IV trickled in a layup. After a back-and-forth finish to the half, The Pioneers had a slim one-point advantage going to the break.
Out of intermission, Tusculum's Joshua Scott dropped back-to-back shots to get ahead by five. Soon Ukaj responded in the paint, and another shot from Bryson brought the Cavs back within one.At the 4:56 mark, the Pioneers had once again found a one-point advantage before turnovers plagued the Cavs til the final minute. UVA Wise struggled with four turnovers in the final four minutes and Tusculum took advantage, squeezing out the win by three.
Bryson led the Cavaliers with 16 points, a season-high. Lawson and Ukaj also snagged double-digits scoring 12 points and ten points, respectively.
Tusculum struggled from the arc, only hitting two-of-21 on the night. Combating their performance from the three was their showing in the paint as they snagged 34 under the bucket.
Along with Legiste, Connor Jordan added 14 points of his own.
Up next, the Cavaliers play Carson-Newman in Jefferson City on Saturday for a 2 PM tipoff.
