BURNSIDE'S FIRST COLLEGIATE DOUBLE-DOUBLE, WARREN'S PERFECT DAY PROPELS CAVS TO VICTORY

BURNSIDE'S FIRST COLLEGIATE DOUBLE-DOUBLE, WARREN'S PERFECT DAY PROPELS CAVS TO VICTORY

A day after registering a career-high 12 points, UVA Wise sophomore Alexis Warren established a new high water mark for her career with 16 points on 6-of-6 shooting in the Cavaliers' 81-45 win over Universidad del Sagrado Corazon. The win completed a perfect 2-0 trip to Puerto Rico for Jamie Cluesman's club who enters the holiday break at 8-3.

UVA Wise (8-3) closed the opening quarter on a 14-to-1 scoring spurt to take command of the contest. Defensive led to offense for the Cavaliers as Universidad del Sagrado Corazon failed to make a field goal over the last five minutes of the first quarter.

During the span, Josie Hester scored four of her 15 points while Sable Burnside netted four of her career-high 12 points over the stretch.

Caitlyn Ross would extend the UVA Wise advantage to 24 points with 4:31 to play in the first half when she scored a fast break bucket following a Leah Kestner steal.

The hosts from Puerto Rico would get it back to within 18 at intermission at 41-23 only to see back-to-back buckets by Warren send the Cavs to the fourth quarter up 22 at 60-38.

Erin Egerbrecht would give UVA Wise its largest lead of the day at 37 with a 3-pointer at the 1:56 mark of the fourth quarter. Egerbrecht's 3-pointer was one of a career-high four by the junior who also recorded a new career-high with 12 points.

Burnside added a career-best 12 rebounds to finish with the first double-double of her career and the first by a Cav this season.

Overall, UVA Wise enjoyed a 51-to-20 advantage on the glass and forced 24 turnovers.

Cluesman's crew will be off until New Year's Eve when the University of Charleston visits the Prior Center for a 2 p.m. tip.
