UVA WISE FALLS TO ANDERSON

 Despite clinging to a three-point lead going into halftime, Anderson took charge in the paint in the second half and squeezed out a 84-82 win in the Abney Athletic Center on Saturday, Jan. 28. 

WHAT HAPPENED:

• The Cavaliers (12-8, 5-6 SAC) jumped up to a quick 7-2 lead with the help of two Calen Lightford three-balls, but Anderson (7-13, 4-6 SAC) crawled their way back to take the lead with the help of the signature left-handed layup from Mack Burgett.
• The Anderson duo of Myles Jenkins and Mack Burgett pieced together an eight point lead with seven minutes left to go in the half, but the Trojans went cold for the next four and a half minutes to pave the way for five consecutive Cavalier buckets. A jumper from Ben Bryson claimed a UVA Wise lead that held until halftime.
• After the break, UVA Wise held a lead for the first three minutes before Burgett took control. A back-to-back layup and a dunk from Burgett sent Anderson past with the four-point lead at the 16:14 mark.
• The Cavaliers found a three-minute scoring spurt later in the game, knotting the game at 53 with ten minutes to play. Despite UVA Wise threatening with a bucket from Dean with less than a minute to go, Anderson had the overall grip for the rest of the contest.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

• Dean led the night with 24 points and added three assists, while Calen Lightford had a career-high day of 20 points (including three three-pointers) and five free-throws. Lawson snagged eight points but added a game-high 11 rebounds.
• Burgett of the Trojans added 24 points and seven rebounds while Jenkins trailed close behind with 20 points and added nine boards.
• The Cavaliers only sank nine-of-33 three-point buckets, while Anderson sank only five of 24 three-point attempts.
• The Trojans outrebounded UVA Wise 44-35 on the night.
• Anderson drove in 50 points in the paint to seal the deal while the Cavaliers secured 38 points under the bucket.
