Baseball stumbles at Point
The Bluefield University baseball team dropped a weekend series to Appalachian Athletic Conference foe Point University. The Skyhawks won Saturday's doubleheader 7-1 and 10-9, and Sunday's single game 12-9.
Game one of the series saw Point take a 4-0 lead. Bluefield's lone run came on a Brady Joslyn RBI single in the eighth inning. Aiden Brown had a pair of hits. In Saturday's second game the Rams drew first blood with a pair of runs in the first on Briley Harlan's two-run single. Point responded with five in the bottom of the first and two in the third to go up 7-2. The Rams plated six runs in the fourth, scoring two runs on two different passed balls, and four on four RBI singles. Point scored a pair of runs in the eighth to retake the lead and the win 10-9.
Max Aristy and David Meech each had two hits and an RBI. Dylan Cutler had two hits and knocked in two runs.
Sunday's series finale saw the Skyhawks scored three in the fourth. The Rams got on the board with two in the fourth to make it 4-2. PU's last big push was a three-run fifth inning to make the score 10-2. The Rams fought back in the seventh as Meech hit a two-run homer, and Harlan and Reece Genter each had RBI singles to make the score 10-6. Point added one in the seventh and two in the eighth to round out their scoring. The Rams scored three in the ninth, two on Genter's two-run home run.
Genter was 3-for-5 with three runs batted in. Meech, Johnny Medina, Harlan, and Kevin Torres each had two hits.
The Rams are back in action Tuesday at Pikeville.
