The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development has awarded a grant of $5,000,000 to the Mount Rogers Community Services Board in order to increase capacity to provide mental health, developmental disability, and substance abuse disorder treatment programs at the Mount Rogers Community Services (MRCS) Smyth County campus in Marion, Virginia. Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) issued the following statement:

“I applaud USDA Rural Development’s award of $5,000,000 to Mount Rogers Community Services Board so that they may provide mental health, development disability, and substance abuse services at their Smyth County campus. This grant money will add eight beds, helping not only residents of Smyth County, but also the surrounding areas, get the care they need.”

According to the USDA, the Rhea B. Lawrence Recovery Center will be expanded to include a second eight-bed unit, doubling the space available for providing residential services. Additionally, the crisis care center will be relocated from an offsite leased facility to enable MRCS to centralize treatments and offer a full array of referral-based outpatient services in one location.
