U.S. Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) announced today that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development has awarded the Scott County Telephone Cooperative $25 million through their ReConnect Grant program. The grant money will be used to provide affordable high-speed internet through a fiber-to-the-premises network.
“Reliable internet access leads to economic growth, educational opportunities, access to quality health care, and many other assets,” said Griffith. “USDA Rural Development’s award of $25 million will bring affordable high-speed internet to thousands of Virginians in need in Norton City, Wise County, and Lee County.”
According to USDA Rural Development, this grant “will benefit 17,352 people, 1,1018 businesses, 37 farms, and 49 educational facilities in Norton City, Wise County, and Lee County.”
