Smyth County schools welcomed 151 pre-kindergarten students in 2023-24 school year

There were 151 pre-kindergarten students enrolled in Smyth County schools in the 2023-24 school year, 1.3% more than the previous year, according to the Virginia Department of Education.

The school that enrolled the largest number of pre-kindergarten students in the county was Oak Point Elementary School.

Within Smyth County schools, the largest number of students were found in 11th-grade, while pre-kindergarten had the least students.

Statewide, Smyth County ranked 66th in enrollment numbers. It was ranked 63rd the year before.

As of November 2023, according to Public Schools Review, Virginia public schools saw an average student-to-teacher ratio of approximately 1:14, which is better than the national average of 1:15 in public schools nationwide.
