2023-24 School Year Enrollment: 274 6th-grade students welcomed in Smyth County schools

There were 274 6th-grade students enrolled in Smyth County schools in the 2023-24 school year, 11.3% fewer than the previous year, according to the Virginia Department of Education.

The school that enrolled the largest number of 6th-grade students in the county was Marion Middle School.

Within Smyth County schools, the largest number of students were found in 11th-grade, while pre-kindergarten had the least students.

Statewide, Smyth County ranked 66th in enrollment numbers. It was ranked 63rd the year before.

As of November 2023, according to Public Schools Review, Virginia public schools saw an average student-to-teacher ratio of approximately 1:14, which is better than the national average of 1:15 in public schools nationwide.
