The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development has allocated financial assistance to the Bland County Service Authority in Virginia. The support includes a $3,493,000 loan and a $2 million grant aimed at enhancing the Bastian Wastewater Treatment Plant.
Congressman Morgan Griffith commented on the development: “This USDA Rural Development loan and grant, which combines for a grand total of more than $5.4 million, helps the Bland County Service Authority pursue operations and maintenance improvements to the Bastian Wastewater Treatment facility.”
The funding is provided under the USDA Rural Development Water and Waste Disposal Loan and Grant Program. This program is designed to fund projects that ensure clean drinking water systems and sanitary sewage disposal facilities.
Planned upgrades at the treatment plant include facility enhancements and supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system improvements. These upgrades aim to improve sewer services for 236 existing customers while addressing a health hazard related to discharges into Wolf Creek.
