Higher student enrollment in Grayson County Public Schools District, differing from state's trend

The only school district in Grayson County had rising enrollment in the 2023-24 school year, according to the Virginia Department of Education.

There were 1,576 students in Grayson County Public Schools District, 1% more than the year before.

Enrollment in Grayson County bucked the state's trend of decreasing enrollment.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2023-24 school year, 52.6% of them were male, and 47.4% were female.

Data also showed that most of the studets were white, representing 86.5% of Grayson County Public Schools District's total enrollment.

Grayson County Public Schools District has a main office in Independence and is the only school district within Grayson County.

According to Public School Review, Virginia public schools saw an average student-to-teacher ratio of approximately 1:14 in the 2023-24 school year, which is better than the national average of 1:15 in public schools.
