Abingdon High School had the highest enrollment among Washington County schools, welcoming 879 students during the 2023-24 school year, according to the Virginia Department of Education.

Of all the students welcomed at the time, 50.1% of them were male, and 49.7% were female.

Data also showed that most of the students were white, representing 86.6% of Abingdon High School's total enrollment.

Among the 15 schools in Washington County, E. B. Stanley Middle School ranked second in enrollment numbers with 664 students, while John S. Battle High School welcomed 649 students to be ranked third in the 2023-24 school year.

Abingdon High School is part of Washington County Public Schools District, which roughly covers schools within Washington County, with its main office in Abingdon.

In the previous school year, Abingdon High School also had the highest number of students among Washington County schools.

According to Public School Review, Virginia public schools saw an average student-to-teacher ratio of approximately 1:14 in the 2023-24 school year, which is better than the national average of 1:15 in public schools.
