The U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Aviation Administration has awarded an $850,000 grant to the Twin County Airport Commission in Carroll County, Virginia. The funding will support the extension of Runway 1 at Twin County Airport.

U.S. Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) announced the grant and said, “I am proud that my community project funding request, also known as an earmark, was approved to deliver federal funds to the Twin County Airport, which serves the City of Galax as well as Carroll and Grayson Counties.”

Griffith added, “This DOT grant for $850,000 helps the Twin County Airport Commission conduct measures to extend a runway at Twin County Airport.”

These funds result from Griffith’s community funding project requests for Fiscal Year 2024. The airport is one of few in the region without a runway at least 5,000 feet long needed for business jet traffic.

Morgan Griffith has represented Virginia’s 9th district in Congress since 2011 after serving in the Virginia House of Delegates from 2000 to 2010. He was born in Philadelphia in 1958 and now lives in Salem. Griffith graduated from Emory and Henry College with a BA and earned a JD from Washington and Lee University.
