The U.S. Department of Education has awarded a $445,963 TRIO grant to Virginia Highlands Community College in Abingdon, Virginia. This funding aims to support academic development and the successful completion of college for students.
U.S. Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) commented on the grant, stating: “Southwest Virginia communities benefit from education opportunities at local community colleges. This TRIO grant for $445,963 helps Virginia Highlands Community College support students in their educational pursuits at the institution.”
Federal TRIO Programs are designed to provide services for individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds. The TRIO Student Support Services grant program specifically awards funds to higher education institutions to assist with academic development and motivate students towards completing their postsecondary education.
In 2024, Congressman Griffith met with TRIO students from Virginia’s Ninth District.
