University of Virginia's College at Wise Athletics issued the following announcement on Nov. 12
STORYLINES - VS. CONFERENCE CAROLINAS
King: The King University Tornado (members of the Conference Carolinas) were ranked 10th in the Conference Carolinas' Preseason Poll. Head Coach Jason Gillespie enters his second season as the operator of the pack, having finished the unprecedented 2020-21 season with a 6-12 record. A key Tornado player on the watch is Michael Mays, who averaged 13.4 points per game and scored in double figures six times on the year.
Lees-McRae: The Lees-McRae Bobcats (members of the Conference Carolinas) were ranked 5th in in the Conference Carolinas' Preseason Poll. Head Coach Steve Hardin enters his 10th season commanding his crew, while producing a 6-6 record in the 2020-21 season. The leader of the pounce, 6 foot-4 junior Jamarius Hairston, led in points per game last season with a hefty 14.3. Teammate Cale Harris joins him on the leaderboards with a team-high average of 4.3 revounds per game in the 2020-21 season. The 6-foot-10 junior's size and athleticism will be a force to be reckoned with in the paint this season.

Head Coach Blake Mellinger enters his 9th season at the helm of the UVA Wise Cavaliers program, and head into their season opener hoping to defy the preseason prognostication as they were picked 13th in the South Atlantic Conference. With eight letter-winners returning, the Cavaliers hope to improve on their 5-13 record from the shortened 2020-2021 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Junior standout Kaeleb Carter from Woodbridge, Pa. averaged 12.4 points per game in the shortened 2020-2021 season for the Cavs, starting in all 18 contests. Carter averaged 26.1 minutes per game that same year, and notably scored a career-high 25 points against Catawba on Feb. 3, 2021. Another starter, Bradley Dean of Gate City, Va. averaged 7.6 points per game in the 2020-2021 season, with a career-high 18 points against Wingate on Feb. 2, 2021. The men's roster introduces a total of ten new faces to the program.
