The University of Virginia's College at Wise recently issued the following announcement.

Event: Changing SWVA Tobacco Culture through Peer Mentoring

Date: December 1, 2021

Time: 1:00 PM - 1:50 PM

Location:  Zoom

UVA Cancer Center, UVA Wise Peer Mentors, and Professor Cody Sanders will share their experiences in peer mentoring against tobacco, “Changing SWVA Tobacco Culture through Peer Mentoring.” The SWVA region has had a pro-tobacco culture incorporated into its Appalachian identity, increasing its acceptance among youth. To counter these cultural norms, UVA Wise students work as peer mentors to generate anti-tobacco messaging for the community.
