Emory & Henry Men’s Basketball Knocks Off Washington Adventist, 84-69, Monday

The Emory & Henry College Men's Basketball Team (8-4, 1-3 SAC) utilized a big second half to defeat Washington Adventist University (8-4, 1-0 CAC) in non-conference action on Monday afternoon. The Wasps took the win by an 84-69 score.

How It Happened- The Shock jumped out to a narrow lead early in the first half, but a layup from sophomore forward Cade Looney (Grundy, Va.) pushed the Wasps ahead 12-11 with 12:50 to play. The squads continued to trade buckets and the score stood level 24-24 at the 4:23 mark. E&H outscored Washington Adventist 15-9 over the remainder of the opening stanza, including a stretch of seven consecutive points scored by freshman forward Jacob Dar (Omaha, Neb.) to take the 39-33 advantage into the halftime break.- The Wasps got off to a hot start in the second half as they put up 16 points before the first media timeout, capped off by a Gabe Brown (Clintwood, Va.) bucket from deep to make the score 55-41 in favor of the visitors. The Shock would respond over the next five minutes of play and trim the deficit to just four at 62-58. E&H ratcheted up the defensive intensity and sparked a 20-6 run to cruise to the 84-69 victory.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders- Sophomore forward Jake Moynihan (Muncie, Ind.) led the Wasps with 17 points, five rebounds and an assist while Dar added 15 points and three rebounds.- Senior guard Malcolm Morgan (Concord, N.C.) had nine points, 12 rebounds, six assists and a block. Junior guard Patrick Antonelli (Mount Pleasant, S.C.) stuffed the stat sheet with six points, six assists, five rebounds, three steals and two blocks in the win.

Washington Adventist Individual Leaders- Ethan Murphy had a game-high 22 points, seven rebounds, two assists and a steal while teammate Lavel Harris posted a double-double with 11 points, ten assists, three rebounds and two steals.- Mohamed Bundu contributed 19 points, seven rebounds, five blocks and one assist in the losing effort.

A Deeper Look- Emory & Henry shot 50 percent (31-for-62) from the field while Washington Adventist made 28-of-76 (36.8%) of their shots. The Wasps knocked down seven three-point buckets in the game compared to six for the Shock.- E&H held a 48-39 rebounding advantage and outscored WAU by a 48-38 margin in points in the paint.- The Wasps held a huge advantage in bench points as the substitutes outscored the home squad by a 35-4 margin.
