The Barter Foundation has received a $700,000 grant from the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) for a renovation project at the Smith Theatre in Abingdon, Virginia. The project includes new audience seating, stabilization of existing interior spaces, and fire system upgrades.
Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) expressed his support for the grant, stating, "This money greatly benefits the Barter’s Smith Theatre complex. The Barter is a fabulous cultural asset for our region and draws tens of thousands of people into Southwest Virginia."
The funding provided by the ARC will undoubtedly enhance the cultural experience for theatergoers in the region and contribute to the preservation and improvement of the historic Smith Theatre.
